Hadrian's Wall Country Cycle Scheme
Get out and explore the World Heritage Site on two wheels on one of the Hadrian’s Wall Trust’s fleet of cycles. Delivered in partnership with Carlisle Leisure Ltd. bike hire hubs are located at the Wave Centre in Maryport and Bitts Park in Carlisle, right on the route of Hadrian’s Cycleway (NCN 72) and close to some great traffic free cycle paths, making it easy to plan an eco-tourism cycling break.
There are 56 cycles for hire including 20 electric bikes and standard adult and children’s bikes.
Like ordinary bikes, electric cycles are powered by human effort, but the motor provides a boost when needed. They generally allow people to travel further than they would on an ordinary bike.

Cyclists Welcome & Electric Bike Charge Points
Many businesses in Hadrian's Wall Country welcome cyclists and provide a great place to rest weary legs, refuel with tasty food and drink, or take in some culture and heritage. A list of businesses who have signed up to be a Hadrian's Wall Country cyclist welcome point can be found below.
Some cyclist welcome points also offer to charge electric bikes batteries while customers enjoy a meal or a visit to an attraction. Although bikes will leave the hire centre fully charged the running distance on one charge varies depending on the nature of the route, how many hills are tackled, the weather, and the speed setting selected by the rider. The charge points offer peace of mind so you know that while you rest and refuel the bike is also getting a top up. Simply ask to re-charge the battery at the businesses identified below and purchase an attraction ticket or refreshments while you wait!
