There is more to Hadrian's Wall Country than its world-famous monument. From West Coast to East Coast there are many towns and villages to discover and explore. From big cities on big rivers to tucked away hamlets there is something for everyone to find and enjoy.

Lanercost
In the peaceful Irthing Valley and close to the route of Hadrian’s Wall Lanercost is well known for its 12th century Augustine Priory and royal connections.
Bewcastle
A location in the much disputed border territory between England and Scotland gives Bewcastle an interesting history including Romans, Reivers, Anglo-Saxons and Normans.
Greenhead
Greenhead nestles in the north pennines and lies within the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall. Within 5 minutes of the village, Hadrian's Wall marches through Walltown Craggs, a much loved beauty spot administered by Northumberland National Park.
Heddon-on-the-Wall
Heddon has the first long stretch of Hadrian's Wall west of Newcastle. Numerous tour coaches call to visit the Wall and the Saxon Church of St Andrews which is open and manned everyday from 11am-1pm.
Bardon Mill
Bardon Mill is a village in Northumberland, England. It is situated to the west of Haydon Bridge and Hexham, on the River South Tyne.
Horsley
Horsley is a small village located on the B6528 10 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne. The village is a stopping off place for walkers on the Hadrian's Walk, for cyclists and for other travellers.
Humshaugh
Humshaugh is a small village situated near where Hadrian's Wall crossed the north Tyne. The bridge crossing the river at Chollerford was built in 1775 and the George Hotel next to it had many famous literary visitors.

Hexham
Hexham is an historic, bustling town in the heart of the Tyne Valley and is an ideal base to explore Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Water and Forest Park and the many attractions in the Tynedale area.
