Cumbria
Hadrian's Wall Country boasts a spectacular coastline, stunning rolling countryside, vibrant cities and towns, charming villages and a wealth of Roman forts, museums, and visitor attractions.
It's the perfect destination for an eco-tourism break, with great cycling, landscapes and wildlife that are nationally and internationally important.
Leaving the car at home and pedalling through the contrasting landscapes of Hadrian's Wall Country on Cumbria's quiet country lanes, cycle paths and bridleways is a great way to explore and discover some of the things that make this part of the World Heritage Site so special.
From the longest visible stretch of Hadrian's Wall at Birdoswald Roman Fort, a large collection of Roman artefacts in Maryport, and the tallest surviving Roman structure in northern Britain at Ravenglass, it's easy to see how Cumbria played an important role in Roman Britain.
